Oh no. That is so bad news. 
I also downloaded the Kinetic-NC software (and tried it out on a Windows VM) for comparison and I assumed Beamicon2 would also work, because I thought they are both from Benezan Electronics.
I hope I don't get stuck with a Windows requirement because I explicitly asked for Linux support when I ordered the CNC-STEP machine.
